Halcyon Days Vice Admiral Lord Nelson Portrait Enamel Box
£200.00
For all collectors Halcyon Days created this limited-edition enamel box to commemorate the bicentenary of Lord Nelson’s death.
Halcyon Days created this limited-edition enamel box to commemorate the bicentenary of Lord Nelson’s death. Vice-Admiral Lord Nelson was fatally wounded during the Battle of Trafalgar on 21 October 1805. The portrait on the box is inspired by a miniature in the National Maritime Museum Greenwich collection. Nicholas Pocock’s painting, An Action During the Napoleonic War 1803-1815, is painted around the base, and is also in the NMM’s collection. Nelson’s coat of arms features inside the lid. Crafted in Bilston, once the heart of Britain’s enamelling industry, the round box is made using the traditional technique of enamel on copper. This creates the perfect surface for paint, enhancing the vibrancy of the colours.
