This charming Limited Edition enamel box from Halcyon Days depicts a royal scene from one of London’s snowiest winters. The illustration is based on a work from 1881 by William Smalls. The Prince of Wales is driving a sleigh along the Embankment, with Waterloo Bridge in the background. In January 1881, London experienced blizzards, with 40 inches of snow recorded. The box has a smart dark base that contrasts with
the silver-coloured rim. Crafted in Bilston, once the centre of the UK’s enamelling industry, the box is made using the traditional technique of enamel on copper.
Halcyon Days was established in London’s Mayfair in 1950. The company revived the traditional art of enamelling on copper, a technique that creates beautiful, vibrant colours. While Halcyon Days makes a variety of jewellery and luxury giftware, it’s nest-known for its exquisite enamel boxes.
As well as being loved by collectors all over the world, Halcyon Days is one of only 14 companies to hold all three Royal Warrants, for Objets D’Art. At Bonds, we have a selection of their appealing hand-painted boxes and bonbonnieres.
