Our hippopotamus bonbonniere is a wonderful piece of silverware, made to the highest quality. The back of this beautiful hippo opens up via a hinged lid, to create a small box which can be used as a dressing table or desk accessory.
This delightful hippo-shaped bonbonniere is crafted from fine sterling silver by Francis Howard. The detailed little chap has a glossy, polished finish, and his back opens up with a hinge to reveal a secret storage space inside… From the French for sweet, bon-bon, a bonbonniere is a little box given to guests as a wedding or christening favour. Traditionally, guests receive five sugared almonds inside the box, representing health, wealth, happiness, fertility and a long life. British silversmiths Francis Howard has been crafting exquisite silverware since 1870. The Howard family continues to run the business, from the Sheffield premises they acquired in 1873.
The collectible hippo is presented in a gift box.
