Halcyon Days Limited Edition Brunel Great Eastern Enamel Box
This commemorative enamel box from Halcyon Days marks the 150th Anniversary in 1858 of the launch of the steamship, Great Eastern.
Brunel’s Great Eastern was involved in the laying of the first Atlantic Cable, and at the time, the huge iron ship was the largest ever built. The picture of the vessel in a stormy sea is after a painting by Henry Clifford, which is housed in the National Maritime Museum London.
Halcyon Days use the traditional technique of enamel on copper, creating the perfect surface for painting. The oval box is finished with gold-plated detailing and a buff-coloured base.
It is from a limited edition of 150 boxes.
