J.M.W. Turner’s most famous painting is reproduced in miniature on this beautiful enamel box from Halcyon Days. The Fighting Temeraire shows the old warship being towed up the Thames to her final resting place in Rotherhithe. It was painted in 1838 and Turner bequeathed it to the nation in 1851. It now hangs in the National Gallery, and the painting features on the latest £20 note.
Crafted in Bilston, once the heart of Britain’s enamelling industry, the box is made using the classic technique of enamel on copper. This creates the perfect surface for paint, and gives the subtle blue and gold colours extra depth and clarity. The base is in tonal pale blue.

Halcyon Days was established in London’s Mayfair in 1950. The company revived the traditional art of enamelling on copper, a technique that creates beautiful, vibrant colours. While Halcyon Days makes a variety of jewellery and luxury giftware, it’s nest-known for its exquisite enamel boxes.
As well as being loved by collectors all over the world, Halcyon Days is one of only 14 companies to hold all three Royal Warrants, for Objets D’Art. At Bonds, we have a selection of their appealing hand-painted boxes and bonbonnieres.
