Tall and slim in design, the quality crystal allows the rich colour of the claret to shine through. The sterling silver handle has a graceful, Art Nouveau style curve, complemented by the silver lid and spout. The heavy base adds reassuring stability.
These stylish decanters were extremely popular among discerning Victorian wine drinkers; although these days, the claret jug is better known as the golf Open trophy! Today, they make wonderful gifts and decorative items; and if you want to use your claret jug for its intended purpose, the sterling silver spout pours beautifully!
Carrs is a family-run silversmiths based in Sheffield. The hand-finished handle and top of the jug is made from 925 sterling silver, which was hallmarked at the Sheffield Assay Office. The body of the jug is made from 24% plain lead crystal.
