The beautiful box by Halcyon Days was created in 2006 to mark the bicentenary of Isambard Kingdom Brunel’s birth. The lid features a painting of the Clifton Suspension Bridge, one of the celebrated engineer’s most famous designs. The sides of the box depict some of his other great works: the Great Western steamship, themThames Tunnel, the Royal Albert Bridge and the Box Tunnel in Wiltshire. Inside, there’s a copy of the iconic photograph of Brunel with the SS Great Eastern’s chains.
The rectangular box is crafted in Bilston from enamel-coated copper. This traditional technique creates the perfect surface for paint, and captures the vibrant colours of the artwork.
