Elegant linear design crystal decanter with sterling silver mounted collar and crystal stopper. The flat bottom of this crystal vessel ensures the decanter is unlikely to tip or spill – traditionally a ship’s decanter was used while at sea, the shape preventing it from rolling with the wave.

A stunning lead crystal ship’s decanter with a linear cut design, from silversmiths Carrs.
This is a typical “ship’s decanter” with a flat, wide base and a narrow neck. This is to prevent the decanter from sliding off the Captain’s table! Ship’s decanters are sometimes known as “Rodney’s”, after the Admiral of the time when they were first used. The stopper is the classic ball design, and a sterling silver collar adds an elegant touch. The decanter holds a full bottle of wine – or perhaps you prefer a tot of rum?
Carrs is a family-run silversmiths based in Sheffield. The hand-finished collar is made from 925 sterling silver, which was hallmarked at the Sheffield Assay Office. The body of the decanter is made from 24% lead crystal.
