The Steamship Great Eastern was involved in the laying of the first Atlantic Cable. This Commemorative Enamel Box is to mark the 150th Anniversary in 1858 of the Launch of the Steamship Great Eastern. The huge Iron Ship designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel was at the time the Largest ever built. On the Lid inside a Gold Plated mount the box depicts the Mighty Vessel in a heavy sea after a painting by Henry Clifford. The Original is in the National Maritime Museum London.The Plain Base of the Box is Buff Coloured
