Tall and slim in design, the quality cut crystal allows the rich scarlet of the wine to shine through. The sterling silver handle has a graceful, Art Nouveau style curve, complemented by the silver lid and spout. The heavy base adds reassuring stability.
These decanters were extremely popular among discerning Victorian wine drinkers; although these days, the claret jug is better known as the golf Open Championships trophy! Today, they make wonderful gifts and decorative items; and if you want to use your claret jug for its original purpose, it pours perfectly!
Carrs is a family-run silversmiths based in Sheffield, the heart of Britain’s silver industry. The hand-finished handle and top of the jug is made from 925 sterling silver, which was hallmarked at the Sheffield Assay Office. The body of the jug is made from 24% lead crystal.
