A classic ship’s decanter with an attractive spiral cut finish, from Carrs of Sheffield.
A “ship’s decanter” typically has a wide, flat base and a long, narrow neck. They were originally designed for use at sea, as the name suggests, and its distinctive shape was to prevent the decanter from sliding off the captain’s table! These days, it’s more likely to grace your rather more stable dining table, where it can hold a full 75cl bottle of wine.
The decanter has a ball-shaped stopper with a spiral cut design, and the sterling silver collar adds an elegant touch.
Carrs is a family-run silversmiths based in Sheffield. The hand-finished decanter collar is made from 925 sterling silver, which was hallmarked at the Sheffield Assay Office. The body of the decanter is made from 24% lead crystal.
Size: 27 cm tall (10.6”)
Capacity: 75cl (25 fl/oz)
The ship’s decanter is presented in a gift box. (But sorry, the contents aren’t included!)
