Halcyon Days Enamels Horatio Nelson 250th Anniversary Enamel Box. The Base of this Celebration Box is a Plain Green colour. On the Lid inside a Gold Plated Mount this Handsome Box celebrates the 250th anniversary of the birth in 1758 of Englands Naval Hero. This portrait is after an oil painting Captain Horatio Nelson by John Francis Rigaud. Nelson was a young lieutenant when the painting was begun in 1777 but by the time it was finished in 1781 he had been promoted and is depicted as a Captain against a background of Fort Juan nicaragua which he helped to capture in 1780. The painting is in the National Maritime Museum London.
