
Halcyon Days Peer Gynt Enamel Box. This Delightful Box produced to mark the 100th Anniversary of the Death of Edvard Grieg was Inspired by the play Peer Gynt written in 1867 by Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen and first performed in Christiania which is now Oslo on February 24th 1876 Peer Gynt was a Daydreamer and a Lovable Rogue who Gatecrashes the wedding of his Former Girlfriend Ingrid. He meets Solveig one of the guests and they fall in Love but when teased by Village Youths he runs off with the Bride to the Mountains. But he soon loses interest in Ingrid and they part.
Around the Outside Edges of the box are painted Scenes from the Play and the Lid framed by a Gold Plated Mount and with a Red and White Border incorporating a Danish Flag at each corner shows Peer Gynt running off to the Mountains with Ingrid. On opening the Lid you will hear Morning Mood from the Peer Gynt Suite No 1
