124 piece Cutlery Set for 12 people - comprises 12 Table Knives, 12 Table Forks, 12 Dessert Spoons, 12 Dessert Knives, 12 Dessert Forks, 12 Soup Spoons, 12 Tea Spoons, 12 Coffee Spoons, 12 Fish Blades, 12 Fish Forks and 4 Serving Spoons. Sovereign Silver Plated 40 microns Each piece is electroplated with pure silver to an average thickness of 35 microns, with 40 microns on pieces in more regular use. Unconditional and Indefinite Guarantee. RATTAIL - This is the oldest pattern in our range. It first appeared around 1710, during the period when modern table etiquette started to develop. The 'rat tail' on the spoon bowl was originally an applied rib to strengthen the area where the bowl joined the handle. The unusual rectangular shaped bowl enabled food to be taken off the spoon from the front or the side. This function is now fulfilled by two separate pieces, the dessert spoon and the soup spoon. A place setting from this period would consist of a knife, a fork and a spoon. From these three pieces, the cutlery we use today has developed.
